Board Of Directors
  • Scott Barbara President

Scott first volunteered with the Club 8 years ago to help his daughter's U9 coach. In the years since, he has been a select team manager, a select and recreational assistant coach, a recreational head coach, and served three terms as the VP of Recreational Soccer. Scott's goals have remained constant - keep as many youth soccer players playing for as long as they are interested while providing them with positive experiences and fundamental soccer skills that will foster a life-long passion for the sport.

  • Shelly Johnson Secretary

Shelly and her family moved to Mercer Island in 2011. Originally from the Southeast, Shelly grew up playing soccer in VA, NC and TN. She continued to play in coed and women's indoor and outdoor teams after first moving to Seattle in 1999.  Her three kids play on MIFC teams and she has coached with the program for several seasons.

  • Jackie Brown Treasurer

Jackie has lived on Mercer Island since 1999.  He has two children who have played recreational and select soccer with the club, and for several years Jackie has served as the team manager for his children’s soccer teams.  He has been involved with various school and community organizations on the Island and believes that the community focus of organizations like MIFC plays a vital role in making Mercer Island a great place to raise a family.

  • Greg Snyder VP Select Soccer

Greg has two boys playing soccer, and he played youth, high school, college and in a men's league. He has "retired" from playing but enjoys watching and coaching. He volunteers for the Club because he feels that soccer has given him so much, including lifelong friendships, and he wants to model that for his own boys. He believes it doesn't matter what level you play as long as you have fun.

  • Ken Robertson VP of Referees

Ken has lived on Mercer Island for 14 years and has 3 kids who all started in Microsoccer. All of his children play year-round soccer; the eldest is now in college, the middle plays for the EFC GU18 White team, and the youngest for the EFC BU16 Red team. He has been a referee since 2007, the EYSA VP of Referees since 2008, the EFC Referee Coordinator since 2009, and the Washington State Referee Committee Webmaster since 2012. Funny thing ... he never played soccer and didn't take an interest until his kids started playing!

  • Aaron Byers VP of Player & Coach Development

A lifelong player and coach, Aaron's passion is transforming how players are coached and how coaches coach. He is a diehard proponent of the Dutch/FC Barcelona player development philosophy. He attended the FCB Escola (FC Barcelona) coaches' class and was an academy coach at FC Barcelona's Clinic in Florida. He believes implementing Dutch-based player and coach models in the US will greatly enhance the skill level of aspiring youth players.

  • Ketu Shah VP of Competition

Involved in soccer all his life, Ketu brings vast experience to the board. He played 4 years in college, has coached young kids, middle school kids and high school boys. As a kid he once played in the old Kingdome during halftime of a Sounder's game in the 1970's! Ketu has two daughters who play Rec and Select. He is passionate about soccer because it "is both an analytical and fluid game that allows for creativity and invention." He volunteers for the board because "it has our kids' best interests in mind and gives them the opportunity to play with their friends and community in a safe and skilled environment, teaching them how to persevere, compete and work as a team and have fun."

  • Jordan Friedman VP of Marketing & Communications

A resident of MI since 2004, Jordan loves the game of soccer as a player, coach, referee, parent, and fan.  He has coached many MIFC and MIBGC teams over the years, and he holds both a USSF coaching E license and a USSF grade 8 referee license.  He also plays on two GSSL men's teams and has two soccer-loving kids who play for MIFC and Eastside FC.

Appointed Directors
  • Toby Suhm Past President

A longtime Mercer Island Resident, Toby has two daughters who played both Rec and Select Soccer with the club. He is involved in a myriad of Mercer Island volunteer organizations and served three terms as Club President. Toby has previously served as the Club's VP or Recreational Soccer and Treasurer.

  • Carl Platou Director of Field Set-Up

The Platou family are 20 year residents of Mercer Island. His 3 boys have played in the Rec and Select programs of the Club. Carl has coached at the Micro, Rec and Select levels. Carl's "team" makes sure the fields and nets are set up for the many matches the Club hosts each week.

  • Jody Kris Board Member At Large

Jody joined MIFC as a head coach for her older daughter's GU11 recreational team in 2011 after moving to Mercer Island from the East Coast.  She has coached that team for six seasons and expanded her soccer horizons this year as an assistant coach for her younger daughter's GU14 Select team.  She is grateful to the Club, fellow coaches and her players for teaching her the game and inspiring her to love it.

  • Mindy Rowe Registrar Recreational Soccer, Field Coordinator, Uniforms

In the last 5 years, Mindy has worked as the Club Registrar and has added a variety of responsibilities along the way. She and her husband Chad have lived on the Island for 11 years and have 4 kids ranging in age from 2-14. Three of her children have played soccer with the Club and she played Rec Soccer growing up. The best thing about working for the Mercer Island Soccer club for Mindy is "the opportunity to work with amazing people that are not only my neighbors but are also passionate about their community and soccer and are always looking to provide an excellent soccer experience for all ages and skills!"

  • Stephanie Wyss Registrar Select Soccer

Stephanie is the mom of three young boys, the oldest of which is currently playing with the EFC U9 team as a 7 year old. She recently joined an indoor women's soccer league where she tries to keep up with the younger women. Stephanie enjoys volunteering at her children's schools and keeps a very active social calendar. With 3 boys and an European husband who grew up living and breathing soccer, she figures life as a soccer mom is in her future and what better way to prepare than to get involved in this great club!
