U6 and U7 Microsoccer (Birth year 2013-14)

U6 and U7 Microsoccer Program

The goal of Microsoccer is to introduce kids and their parents to soccer in a fun, safe environment. Microsoccer has two weekday (optional) clinic practice led by our professional trainers and one Saturday session that includes a skills clinic led by the professional trainers and then a scrimmage against another team. Microsoccer has teams and uniforms. Teams have 6 players who scrimmage 3 v. 3 without goalies. This conforms to the "small-sided" philosophy espoused by FIFA that is explained well here.

  • Teams are grouped based on the schools they attend unless teams are full and then we go with open spaces available
  • Players on each team are of the same age/gender
  • Professional coaches run the clinics
  • Parent volunteers coach the games

When is Registration?
Registration is now open and runs through August.

Microsoccer is for our youngest players. This is available for kids that were born in 2013 (U7) & 2014 (U6). These kids typically fall into Pre-K - 1st grade and are grouped by birth year.

Season and Time Commitment
Microsoccer games are on Saturdays. MIFC has added two optional weekday practices in addition to the practice and scrimmage on Saturdays. The season begins the first Saturday after Labor Day and runs 8 weeks.

Coaching Style
MIFC worked with an A licensed soccer coach (the highest national coaching rating) to design the Microsoccer program. Constant motion and individual player ball time is important. We teach age appropriate skills and activities. The approach we will be taking each week is to focus on coordination during warm ups and then progressing week to week through skill development including dribbling, ball control, individual/small group game understanding, passing, turning and finally shooting.

Volunteer Coaches
Parent coaches don't have to have past soccer experience as the trainers will be showing the coaches what they need to do with their teams each week. Coaches need to have enthusiasm and a willingness to be at all Saturday sessions.

As part of their registration, Microsoccer players receive a uniform kit including a jersey and socks with built-in shin guards. Players provide their own black shorts.

Parents are responsible for ensuring their players wear/bring the following to every session:

  • Black shorts
  • Size #3 soccer ball with their name on it
  • Water bottle
  • Shoes - cleats are not required, but are recommended as the sessions are on grass. Cleats will give better traction, especially on wet grass. Tennis or athletic shoes are acceptable
